The Runover 4/23-4/24/22 Weekend Edition
In the leftist mind, when reality collides with their narrative, then reality must be jettisoned.

The Reason Elizabeth Warren Says 'Democrats Are Going to Lose' Midterms Proves She's Clueless on Why»»
So, Warren being Warren, she’s upset with her own party over a reality even she can see: Democrats are going to get their asses handed to them in the November, midterm elections.
But here’s where it gets beautiful. Lizzie isn’t concerned because voters continue to soundly reject the radical-left policies of Joe Biden and the Democrats. Not even close.
Warren is concerned because her party hasn’t done more of exactly why they’re going to lose.
As Fox News reports, Warren warned on “Meet the Press” Sunday that Democrats are going to lose in the midterms if they don’t deliver on “key progressive issues” in the coming months.
This is the character trait of the left that just blows my mind. They have zero ability to self reflect. Zero. Every time they fail, their response is that they just need to double down on their failed messaging more intensely.
Hilarious: Never Trumper Lifts off the Veil and Throws in With Dems Officially»»
We just got a golden example of this hypocrisy with a new announcement from Evan McMullin, the Never Trumper who ran as an “independent” for president in 2016. It was an obvious and ridiculous effort to siphon votes from Trump — how’d that work out? Not very well. Then the “independent” voted for Joe Biden in 2020 — who, perhaps, has governed more radically than anyone yet in the office.
Now, McMullin is running as an “independent” for the Senate in Utah against Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). But, the Democrats just announced they are pulling their Democratic candidate and forming a “coalition” to support McMullin.
The anti-Trumpers and Democrats are kvelling over this move.
Independent Evan McMullin vs Republican Mike Lee for US Senate just became the most important race in America this year. https://t.co/HDtzkpBdMJToday Utah Democrats voted to join Evan McMullin’s independent coalition and NOT nominate a candidate for U.S. Senate. I’m proud to be part of this coalition. Together we can win this race and defeat Mike Lee. #utpol https://t.co/NuI84mRqSaBen McAdams @BenMcAdamsThe problem, of course, just like with most other topics, they are completely reading this wrong.
Utah is a very red state. If he was trying to appeal to conservatives that he’s the “true conservative,” he just threw that completely under the bus by throwing in with the Democrats in a very public way. Of course, voting for Biden and his actions already proved he was with them, but now, he’s lifted the veil officially. Why would any Republican in the state vote for him? And then, on top of that, if he’s still claiming to be “conservative,” why would any of the Democrats in the state vote for him? They’re not going to come out for him like they would for a Democratic candidate. You can already see many of them expressing trepidation over this move and saying he can’t be trusted. No kidding, we already know that.
McMuffin is a Romney clone, show him the door Utah.
Effort to Block GOP Reps From Running Because of Jan. 6 Goes Down to Withering Defeat»»
They’re also trying the gambit of trying to block out some Republicans by accusing them of being “insurrectionists” and filing cases to keep them off the ballot. The irony of that is that they’re claiming that the Republicans were behind efforts to overcome the election. Yet, it’s Democrats who are pre-emptively trying to keep Republicans off the ballot so the voters can’t vote for them. Talk about losing the plot.
The plaintiffs in the case, the group Free Speech for the People (more irony), are trying to use Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibits elected officials from engaging in an insurrection or rebellion to knock Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and state Rep. Mark Finchem (who’s running for Secretary of State) off the ballot in Arizona.
Except there were a few problems with the argument — none of the three were involved in the Jan. 6 riot that Democrats have tried to call an insurrection. Plaintiffs tried to claim they had involvement in the rally on Jan. 6. But the rally and the riot are two separate things. Gosar and Biggs did vote to not accept the electoral count from some states — much the same way as many Democrats have done after prior presidential elections. That’s not an “insurrection” — indeed, that’s part of their power as members of Congress to accept the count (or not). When the Democrats did it, they claimed they were preserving democracy, but when Republicans did it, the Democrats claimed they were attacking democracy. Such hypocrisy.
But the effort to block out the Republicans didn’t fly in court, and the case was booted by the Arizona judge, who found they didn’t have a private right of action.
In his advisory opinion, Coury noted that Finchem, Gosar and Biggs have not been “charged with or convicted of any state or federal crime that relates to insurrection or rebellion.”
Both Biggs and Gosar argued that only Congress has the constitutional power to judge the qualifications of its members, an argument that Coury found persuasive.
“It would contradict the plain language of the United States Constitution for this Court to conduct any trial over the qualifications of a member of Congress,” Coury’s opinion said. “Moreover, a state judicial trial relating to the qualifications of Rep. Biggs and Rep. Gosar arguably implicates the doctrines of federalism and separation of powers between the branches of the government.”
The left wants to approve Republicans, for Republican voters to vote on. It’s up to the voters, not the courts.
JONATHAN TURLEY: Nothing says democracy like barring people from running for office apparently. It's very common in countries like Iran. They just disqualified hundreds of people from their ballot. This is a much more modest idea, but it's an equally dangerous one. It's based on a very flawed understanding of what's called the disqualification clause of the 14th Amendment.
And this was really something that was put into the 14th Amendment when Alexander Stephens showed up in 1865 to resume being a member of Congress. Well, before that he was vice president of the Confederacy. And that didn't go over very well, particularly when he was in the company of former Confederate Senators and military leaders, so they put this thing in. They said look, if you took a previous oath to the United States and you broke it, you went with the rebellion, then you really can be disqualified from office.
Well, the problem of course is that was a rebellion. 750,000 people died in what was the Civil War. And so what they are suggesting here is that this was really a rebellion and that these members, by supporting the challenge to the electoral votes, were giving essentially aid and comfort to the rebels. And they could be disqualified. One Democratic number has suggested disqualifying 120 Republicans because they signed on to a brief supporting a challenge of the election in Texas.

Someone needs to find out who these people are and who is really behind them and this campaign to disqualify Republican’s. The Washington Post methodology by Taylor Lorenz should then be deployed with vigor.

Trump, McCarthy Speak After Audio Leak, Former President Not Angry
The former president was said to not be furious, as many assumed he would be, with the minority leader after revelations that McCarthy talked negatively about him in private after the January 6, 2021 incident at the Capitol, The Washington Post reported.
McCarthy phone Trump on Thursday night to discuss the revelations on the audio recordings and, according to three people with knowledge of the conversation, the former president assured him that everything was good between them.
In fact, The Post said, the sources said that Trump was “glad McCarthy didn’t follow through” with asking him to resign.
McCarthy spoke about the revelations on the audio recordings on Friday night.
There’s always more to the story.

Meanwhile, here is what one of Rittenhouse’s assailants was doing on Friday:
When he was in the hospital after Kyle shot him, he told a friend he wished he had killed Kyle. He has a criminal past that goes back the last decade, including assault and domestic violence. He was a felon who had a gun, pointed it at Kyle, which was why Kyle shot him. As far as I know he hasn’t been charged for being a felon in possession of a gun.
